By no means a newcomer to the world of nonprofit, FUND E-Z Development Corporation has been offering software to nonprofit organizations for more than 10 years. Recently rewritten, FUND E-Z Fund Accounting now offers client/server capability and is a good fit for small to mid-sized nonprofit organizations.

BASIC SYSTEM FUNCTIONS

FUND E-Z is easily installed on organization desktops and is quick and painless. Designed using the ribbon style menu of Microsoft Office 2007, FUND E-Z is easily navigated. At the top of the menu, users can access system modules, with the associated tasks updated as the module is selected. Below is the Start Page, where users can add active tasks, and any related information, such as what it relates to (donors, clients, vendors), as well as a description of the task. Data-entry screens are well-designed and free of clutter. Drop-down menus and lookup options are available throughout the system, and function tabs allow users to complete tasks from one screen.

Modules available include GL, Bank Reconciliation, Budgeting, AP, Purchase Orders/Encumbrances, AR, Client Billing, Direct Allocations, Security and Tools. An Indirect Allocations module is also available but requires FUND E-Z Pro. Another optional module is FUND E-Z Fund Raising.

FUND E-Z is available in two versions: the standard version or FUND E-Z Pro, which contains more customization capability and flexibility, which makes it an excellent choice for growing nonprofit organizations. 5

Core NFP/Fund Accounting Capabilities

FUND E-Z offers a flexible account structure, with the ability to create multi-segmented accounts to track various programs and grants. FUND E-Z easily handles multiple transaction types including allocation of AP invoices, full and partial payment processing, easy processing of related purchase orders, and the ability to create invoices from open encumbrances.

Budgets are easily tracked and maintained, with the ability to create revisions while keeping the original budget amounts, as well as viewing budget spreadsheet data for up to 24 months. Budgets can be created for each account as well as each individual segment within the chart of accounts. The optional Fund Raising module offers excellent donor tracking and easily tracks donations, gifts and pledges. Account segments and grant information can also be monitored, including funding, expenditures and balances remaining. FUND E-Z utilizes forced balancing rules to ensure that all accounts and subsidiary accounts are in balance.

The system does not utilize a specific year-end process, but allows users to keep unlimited fiscal years of data along with the ability to process new fiscal year data prior to closing the old year. The Auditing report provides administrators or managers with all transaction activity including journal type, user, workstation and event. Invoices can be sent via email to clients and donors. 4.75

MANAGEMENT FEATURES

FUND E-Z allows for easy comparison of either detailed or summarized budgets, allowing users to post revisions to the original budget. Budgets can also be auto-created by using previous data that can just be revised as needed. Security is multi-level, with users granted full, add/edit, add only, read only, or no-access rights. Security can also be assigned by individual or group, and segment-level security is available, as well. Budgeted amounts are easily displayed onscreen so users will know if they are approaching budget limits. Collection capabilities are excellent, with the ability to create mail merge letters and email collection letters for clients. Statements can be sent to donors and other clients with balance due information.

FUND E-Z offers an excellent Fund Raising module that is well worth the cost. The Fund Raising module tracks donor information, as well as gifts, pledges, campaigns, appeals and even sub-appeals. This module allows users to keep track of campaign responses and track household information for better donor targeting. Mail merge capability is available in the Fund Raising module, as well. 4
