PERSPECTIVES

What do you feel is the most important issue facing the accounting profession today?

Talent acquisition and retention is the most important issue facing the accounting profession today. Organizations should work with employees to determine how to align organizational values with employees’ values to be beneficial to both the organization and employees. Some ideas organizations can consider prioritizing are fair compensation, benefits, flexibility in hours and location, career advancement opportunities, skills development, mental health support, and sufficient paid time off.  

What one thing would you recommend accountants do to prepare for the future?

Be curious about everything! Feed your curiosity by asking questions, reading, and learning! Asking questions gives you information and shows you care; reading and learning are lifetime activities to keep your knowledge relevant.

What one skill or experience would you recommend that young women getting started in the accounting profession master?

I recommend honing your communication skills, which will enable you to articulate your knowledge and abilities, allow you to develop strong interpersonal connections with others, and empower you to be a voice for those who need your help and advocacy.
