CalCPA Awards Three Professionals and Two Firms

The California Society of CPAs (CalCPA.org) has presented its annual awards to recognize service to the accounting profession and the community.

The California Society of CPAs (CalCPA.org) has presented its annual awards to recognize service to the accounting profession and the community.

Receiving the Distinguished Service Award is Gregory M. Burke, CPA, Sacramento. Burke has served in numerous CalCPA leadership positions both at the chapter and state level, including being CalCPA chair for 2008-09 and the 2015-16 president of the CalCPA Education Foundation.

Fausto Hinojosa, CPA, Price, Paige & Co., AC, Fresno, has accepted CalCPA’s Public Service Award. Hinojosa serves on several charity boards in the Fresno area.

CalCPA presented two Firm Public Service awards. The recipients were Sensiba San Filippo, LLP, San Francisco Bay area, and Holthouse Carlin & Van Trigt, LLP, Los Angeles.

Last year Sensiba San Filippo’s staff from its six offices provided 4,675 in volunteer service hours to community charities and donated $65,000 to various organizations. Holthouse Carlin & Van Trigt has offices in Southern and Northern California as well as Texas and Utah. Its staff volunteers to support such charities as Operation Gratitude, Kids Against Hunger and Ronald McDonald House.

The Outstanding Accounting Educator Award went to Kathryn Hansen, Ph.D., California State University, Los Angeles. Numerous students have praised Hansen for helping them achieve their goals.
