Ohio CPAs to prepare tax returns free of charge for deployed troops

Operation CPA eases the burden on military families during tax season

The Ohio Society of CPAs (OSCPA) is offering free tax preparation services to Ohio military families this tax season.

From January through April, Ohio certified public accountants will prepare 2012 tax returns for military personnel who are permanent residents of Ohio and currently deployed outside of the state. Operation CPA is a partnership with the Ohio National Guard, and provides a valuable service to help ease the burden of deployment on Ohio military families.

“Operation CPA has helped over 400 military families since it was launched in 2005,” said Amy Johnson, OSCPA’s Vice President, Communications. “This program is a way for CPAs to say thank you to the men and women serving our country.”

Thanks to a dedicated group of volunteers, Operation CPA runs smoothly each year. Military families call or email the Society to be matched with a CPA in their local area.

“I think that these families, not just the soldiers, give so much to protect me and my home. It’s the least I can do to repay their service,” said Operation CPA volunteer Elizabeth Kroll, CPA of Pease & Associates Inc. in Cleveland.

Ohio servicemembers can find an Operation CPA volunteer in their area by calling The Ohio Society of CPAs toll-free at 888.959.1212 or via email More details on special tax benefits for the military is available at the IRS Web site for military personnel.
