Accounting CS from Thomson Reuters Tax & Accounting is a professional accounting system used and managed by firms, who can then allow clients access to an integrated web-based small business accounting system. The program also integrates with Accounting CS Payroll, UltraTax, Engagement CS, and other applications in the Thomson Reuters CS Suite. Some integration is offered for data from QuickBooks.

Best Fit: Accounting CS is best-suited to accounting firms managing multiple engagement types for clients, particularly those who wish to move their clients into the fully-integrated, web-based client side of the system.

Strengths

  • Well-respected brand and broad suite of integrateable systems that is used by thousands of accounting professionals in the U.S.
  • Offers powerful tools and features for traditional write-up functions as well as collaborative accounting with clients.
  • Intuitive user interface for clients and firm staff, designed for fast, heads-down data entry and high-volume processing.
  • Accountant-centric system allows detailed control over user access rights by staff members and clients.
  • The company does not market directly to small businesses. The small business accounting component is offered to clients by the accounting firm.

Potential Limitations

  • Direct integration with financial institutions and third party programs would benefit users.
  • Accounting CS does not support multiple currencies.
  • Payroll functionality requires licensing and activation of additional features.

Pricing:

Specific pricing for Thomson Reuters’ Accounting CS depends upon the number of accounting firm users and clients, as well as additional add-on functionality that firms and clients desire. Firms should get a customized pricing quote.
