California CPA Society Awards 3 for Service to Profession and Public
The California Society of CPAs (CalCPA.org) recently presented awards to three individuals and a Sacramento accounting firm in recognition of their services to the profession or to the public.

The California Society of CPAs (CalCPA.org) recently presented awards to three individuals and a Sacramento accounting firm in recognition of their services to the profession or to the public.
William J. Harrison, CPA, of Harrison Accounting Group, Fremont, California, has received the Public Service Award. Harrison, a former Fremont mayor, worked with developers, nonprofits and community leaders to increase the amount of affordable housing in southern Alameda County. He also brought together county officials, nonprofits and local faith community members to open a warming center to serve the most vulnerable in the area.
Gilbert Associates, Sacramento, is recognized with the Firm Public Service Award. Gilbert encourages community involvement of its employees because it provides a sense of connection with the people they serve. The firm’s staff has volunteered nearly 1,200 hours during the past year with more than 50 community organizations.
Donald A Driftmier, CPA, of Ontario, California, has accepted the Distinguished Service Award. A CalCPA member since 1971, Driftmier has been involved in various activities and leadership roles on the chapter, state and national level. In 2004 Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger appointed Driftmier to the California Board of Accountancy, where he served as CPA president in 2008. He is in his ninth and last year on the board. He chaired the ethics curriculum requirement for licensure in California and served on several other committees.
Nancy Mangold, Ph.D., of Hayward, California, has received the Outstanding Educator Award. Mangold is an award-winning professor at California State University, East Bay, where she’s also chair of the department of accounting and finance. Along with other faculty, she created and launched the master of science in accountancy program at CSU, East Bay, in 2013. She also was instrumental in designing the MSA program curriculum to help students meet the education units required for both the CPA exam and California CPA licensure requirements.
