Thomson Reuters will host its 19th annual EBIA Advanced Cafeteria Plans and Benefits Conference on July 12-14, 2017 in La Jolla, CA. The three-day event is designed for benefits professionals to learn about advanced compliance issues for employer health, cafeteria and account-based plans. The conference faculty will include a panel of ten distinguished employee benefits attorneys and professionals from top law firms and benefit firms around the country.

This year’s conference will address current trends, including planning amidst the uncertainty of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), and other regulatory and legislative developments. It will also focus on responsibilities under existing benefits laws and regulations that are not changing, such as ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, and the IRS rules on eligible expenses.

This year’s timely agenda includes topics such as:

  • Six Months In: Affordable Care Act Transition Planning and What Lies Ahead
  • Benefits Litigation Update
  • Hot Topics for Cafeteria and Account-Based Plans
  • Wellness Programs: Privacy Implications

“Employers, administrators, and advisors are planning for 2018, even as several key provisions of federal health care law are targeted for repeal,” said Salim Sunderji, Managing Director, Checkpoint, with the Thomson Reuters Tax & Accounting business. “This annual conference, long regarded as the industry’s must-attend event for benefits professionals, is now even more relevant during this time of uncertainty and change.”

The conference will also cover best practices and evolving trends in plan design, such as “skinny” plans, narrow networks, reference-based pricing, direct contracting, and telemedicine.

Conference attendees will receive certificates of attendance that may be used to obtain credits with various credentialing organizations within the legal, human resources, insurance, and accounting fields; for example, under NASBA guidelines, the conference will provide 20 CPE credits.
