Bennett Thrasher Announces Promotions
Bennett Thrasher LLP recently promoted 11 professionals within its firm. Jane Klingmeyer, CPA, Michael Thrasher, CPA, CFP, PFS and Shane George, CPA were promoted to Senior Manager; and Ashley Addison, Joe Cronmiller, Chris Edwards, Camden Eggers, Myles Emmert, Eric Gilmore, Kaolee Hoyle and Heath Jennings were promoted to manager.

H&R Block Partners with Jennifer Katrulya
H&R Block and Jennifer Katrulya recently announced a partnership in which Katrulya will assist in H&R Block’s efforts to provide bookkeeping, payroll, tax and other services to small businesses. As part of the partnership, H&R Block will also help Katrulya’s consulting practice, BMRG Advisory Services, provide possible succession plans to accounting firms. Graduates of the BMRG program that meet certain criteria can choose to remain independent or sell to or become a franchise of H&R Block.

A.T. LOCKE Adds Financial Analyst
A.T. LOCKE recently added Veronica Edwards as a Financial Analyst on the firm’s Upstate team. Edwards received her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and her Master of Science degree in Accounting from Georgia Southern University.

Glass Jacobson Welcomes New Director of Retirement Plan Services
Glass Jacobson recently selected William Cannon, ARPC as the company’s Director of Retirement Plan Services. Cannon has more than 20 years of experience in the qualified plan and financial services industry, and in all aspects of retirement plans including plan consulting & design, investment monitoring, administration, and relationship management. He has served in sales and service roles at Fortune 100 and Fortune Global 500 investment companies and as a Fortune 1000 plan recordkeeping provider. Cannon graduated from the University of Maryland and is currently pursuing the Accredited Investment Fiduciary designation. 

LBMC Welcomes New Senior Manager
Lattimore Black Morgan & Cain, PC announced that Brian McCuller, CPA has joined its State and Local Tax Services team as Senior Manager. McCuller has more than 20 years of state and local tax experience, and has counseled Fortune 500 companies and middle-market companies with multi-state and multi-national operations. McCuller specializes in multi-state tax planning and controversy services. He graduated from the University of Mississippi with his Juris Doctor, and also received his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from the University of Texas at Austin.

CohnReznick Advisory Group Announces New Managing Director
CohnReznick added William (Bill) Huber to its firm as a managing director with CohnReznick Advisory Group. Huber has more than 20 years of experience developing business and IT strategy, aligning IT with the needs of an organization to extract more value from technology, and delivering critical initiatives from the conceptual level through to implementation. Huber received his Bachelor of Science degree in Information Systems Management from the University of Maryland and his MBA in International Business from Duke University, Fuqua School of Business.

Moore Colson Announces the Appointment of Director of Talent
Moore Colson recently announced the appointment of Evelyn Poulos, CPA to Director of Talent, in the firm’s Administrative Department. In her new role, Poulos will be responsible for the firm’s talent recruitment and development efforts. She will also help build relationships with regional universities to improve Moore Colson’s college recruiting and internship program. Poulos has more than 20 years of experience working with start-up, middle market and large private and public companies. She graduated from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor with a B.S. in Business Administration.

Grant Thornton Names Office Managing Partner
Grant Thornton LLP named Doreen Griffith, CPA office managing partner of its Greater Bay Area practice, where she will oversee the growth and operations of the San Francisco and San Jose, Calif. offices. She has extensive experience in tax consulting, structuring, business operations and compliance for companies and individuals in the real estate, manufacturing, not-for-profit, hospitality and high-technology industries. She also has experience in federal and state taxes for corporations, individuals, partnerships and bankruptcy estates. Griffith received her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Louisiana Tech University.

Armanino Merges with Berger Lewis
Armanino LLP recently announced that an agreement has been signed with Berger Lewis Accountancy Corporation to merge effective January 1, 2015. The merger will add to Armanino’s nonprofit and middle market tax practice and give Armanino a new presence in the Santa Cruz-Monterey Bay community. All of Berger Lewis’ partners, professionals, and administrative staff will make the transition to Armanino. 

University of Wisconsin-Madison Faculty Recognized by National Accounting Organizations
Members of the faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Madison were recognized by national accounting organizations. Wisconsin School of Business Accounting Professor Emily Griffith and Ph.D. student Patrick Hurley received the Access to Audit Personnel Program Award, sponsored by the Center for Audit Quality (CAQ) and the Auditing Section of the American Accounting Association (AAA). Griffith and Hurley are one of only four research teams in the U.S. to receive this prestigious award.

McGladrey Adds Economist
McGladrey LLP recently announced that Joe Brusuelas has joined as the firm’s chief economist. In this role, Brusuelas will be responsible for delivering macroeconomic insights to help middle market leaders succeed. Brusuelas conducted his doctoral work at the University of Southern California in Political Economy and Public Policy and holds a master’s and bachelor's degree from San Diego State University in political science.

ParenteBeard Summer Accounting Interns Make Impact at Five Nonprofits
ParenteBeard’s accounting interns participated in charitable community service activities in central and northern Pennsylvania and New York, demonstrating the firm’s mission to serve the communities where team members live. The interns served the Habitat for Humanity of Berks County, the Commission on Economic Opportunity’s Kids Café, the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, the American Cancer Society’s AstraZeneca Hope Lodge and the Natural Areas Volunteers.

The 40 interns represent Albright College, Baruch College, Bloomsburg University, Bryant University, Duquesne University, Elon University, Emory University, King’s College, Kutztown University, Lincoln University, Lycoming College, Messiah College, Pennsylvania State University, Providence College, Robert Morris University, Susquehanna University, Thiel College, University of Connecticut, University of Delaware, University of Pittsburgh, West Chester University, West Virginia University, Wilkes University and York College.

Baker Tilly Virchow Krause, LLP and ParenteBeard LLC recently announced the two firms will merge and the name of the combined firm will be Baker Tilly Virchow Krause, LLP. The merger will further expand and strengthen the firm’s presence in the northeast with a physical presence from New York to Washington, D.C.
