NSA Scholarship Foundation Extends Scholarship Application Deadline to April 8

The National Society of Accountants (NSA) Scholarship Foundation has extended its deadline for accepting scholarship applications to Tuesday, April 8.

The Foundation awards scholarships to undergraduates who are U.S. or Canadian citizens majoring in accounting at an accredited two- or four-year college or university in the United States. Since its formation in 1969, the NSA Scholarship Foundation has awarded over $1 million to dedicated students pursuing a career in the accounting profession.

“We need more accountants to meet increasing demand,” says NSA Scholarship Foundation Chair Matthew C. Lewis, EA, ATA, Delta, Colorado. “So our foundation is pleased to assist dedicated students who are committed to a career in accounting by providing financial assistance to support their education.”

Applicants for awards are judged on the basis of scholastic achievement, demonstrated leadership, participation in school and community activities, honors, and work experience. They must have a “B” (3.0 on a 4.0 scale) or better grade point average.

Scholarships typically range from $500 – $2,000 and 30 or more scholarships are awarded each year. In 2013, the Foundation awarded $32,700 to 39 deserving candidates.

For students nearing graduation or new to the accounting profession, the Accreditation Council for Accountancy and Taxation (ACAT), which is affiliated with NSA, offers an Accredited Business Accountant® (ABA) credential. No experience is required to take the ACAT Comprehensive Examination that leads to the ABA credential.
