Avalara, provider of sales tax and compliance automation services in the cloud, recently announced that Brian Austin, Director of Accountant & Industry Relations, has been appointed the Information Technology Alliance Board of Directors. Austin will serve a three-year term, which starts September 1, 2013.

Austin has volunteered with ITA since 2003, serving on various committees, including the Marketing and Communications Committee, the ITA Leadership Alliance Committee and the Onsite Committee. He has led the Vendor Member services outreach during ITA’s twice annual meetings. Throughout his career, Austin has held a number of key positions in public relations, helping internal and external audiences understand the role public relations plays in opinion, reputation management and brand awareness. He has worked with many of the accounting profession’s top vendors and providers and with Big 4, regional and local accounting and consulting firms.

“We are very proud of Brian and his volunteer service with ITA, and couldn’t ask for a better individual to represent Avalara to this community,” said Scott McFarlane, Founder and CEO at Avalara, which joined ITA in 2005. “We continue to value our involvement in ITA, both because of the way the organization helps shape and influence the accounting-reseller-vendor paradigm, and because of our shared belief in the ITA credo that knowledge increases in value when shared. We are confident that Brian will have a valuable impact over the next three years while serving on the Board, and we’re pleased as an organization to be more fully involved in ITA as it grows and continues to succeed in its core mission.”

ITA consists of the top 30 accounting firms, top technology consultants and leading technology vendors. The organization focuses on sharing information and building relationships to improve the way its member firms and their clients conduct and build business.

“ITA Board Members are elected based on their commitment and contributions to the organization and their ability to help the organization develop plans and initiatives to provide increased value to our membership,” said Stan Mork, ITA President. “Brian has demonstrated his commitment to the ITA through his past involvement in a variety of ITA initiatives and his passion for what our organization stands for.  I look forward to working with Brian during his term.”
