Accounting Firm Baker Tilly Knows Cheese

Just as many small and mid-sized firms find success in concentrating on specific industry segments like construction, medical practices or franchisees, large accounting practices generally do the same, with numerous specialty groups that focus on even more varied industry areas.

For example, Baker Tilly Virchow Krause, LLP (Baker Tilly) has a strong presence in, and a group that specializes in, the food and beverage industry. Baker Tilly partner Mike Fitzpatrick, who leads the firm's New Markets Tax Credit transaction team, and Joel Laubenstein will be presenting a discussion at the International Cheese Technology Exposition, April 10-12, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The event is hosted by the Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association.

The interactive discussion will include industry experts and will focus on the growing issues around waste management in the cheese industry, creative financing, and engineering solutions to deal with this common challenge. The ICTE is the world’s largest gathering devoted solely to the multi-billion dollar market for cheese and related dairy products.

"Our involvement with the ICTE builds on our continued focus and expertise within the food and beverage industry.” said Brad DeNoyer, Partner with the Food and Beverage practice. “In fact, we were recently awarded a grant to create a strategic plan to support an increase in the development and utilization of waste from agriculture and cheese production as feedstock for alternative energy sources.”

Baker Tilly is one of the key sponsors of the event. Other sponsors include Cargill, Diversey, CHR Hansen, Millerbernd Process Systems, DuPont's Danisco brand and the Innovation Center for U.S. Dairy.
