Sandra Wiley, SPHR, KCMI - 2012 Most Powerful Women in Accounting

Flexible workplace, calendar, iPad, iPhone and a great support network. There is not just one thing, it is a combination of all of these items. I keep a calendar that includes my personal and professional items together. I have my iPhone with me all the time, but I turn it off when I am involved with family activities – not just on vibrate! I use my iPad all the time for calendar, lists and email management.

Last, but not least I have a support team consisting of a husband and work team that help me when things go crazy. The magic is to make sure that everyone (including Sandra time) gets some attention.

How mobile are you regarding your work? How have mobile devices and apps impacted your productivity and work-life balance? (Spending less time in the office?)

Extremely! I live mobile. I travel 75% of the year, so mobile is just a way of life for me. The iPad is a game changer for me. Light, instant on and access to everything at my office. Amazing.

What single piece of technology could you absolutely not live without, and why?

There are actually 3 – My laptop, my iPhone and my iPad.

What is your favorite professional mobile app, and why?

Evernote. I use if for managing notes that I take at meetings, on projects, with my team at Boomer and for home projects. It keeps my organized and I have learned to get rid of all of my sticky notes and paper. Nice!

What do you like to do when you actually have free time without any obligations to work or family?

I find that these times are like my mini vacations. I love to read, watch movies and take walks. Walking near my home in the flint hills of Northeast Kansas is the activity I enjoy almost more than anything else I do on a free day. I also enjoy golf and cooking for family and friends.
