LOS ANGELES – June 6, 2011 – Accountants, tax professionals and their clients are increasingly turning to the cloud and SaaS-based technologies, and this year’s Tax & Accounting Technology Innovation Awards highlighted many new workflow tools, programs and devices that aid in professional and business productivity.

The Awards, now in their eighth year, were presented by CPA Practice Advisor on Monday, June 6 during a special event at the California Accounting and Business Show & Conference in Los Angeles. The Awards are designed to honor technologies that are either new to market, or have recently undergone significant advancement, and that hold exceptional promise for positively impacting the profession through enhanced workflow, increased accessibility, improved client collaboration or other means. CPA Practice Advisor is the most trusted practice management and technology resource to the tax and accounting profession.

The recipients of the Tax & Accounting Innovation Awards for 2011 are Thomson Reuters for its Mobile CS app; Fujitsu for the ScanSnap S1100 scanner; Bill.com for its new Accounts Receivable module; New River Innovation for the Beyond415 IRS response system; and CCH, a Wolters Kluwer business, for Knowledge Coach, which provides research, guidance, tools and a workflow engine for enhancing audit efficiency. Honorable Mention recognition was also extended to Freshbooks and to CCH, a Wolters Kluwer business for its CCH Mobile research app.

“The winners of this year’s Innovation Awards all offer exceptional feature sets for professional practices, from providing apps for simplified mobile access to data, to core paperless hardware and SaaS solutions, as well as programs for maximizing firm processes and communications,” said CPA Practice Advisor Executive Editor, M. Darren Root, a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), who also holds the AICPA’s Certified Information Technology Professional (CITP) credential. Root is also the managing partner of the Bloomington, Indiana, accounting firm Root & Associates, LLC, and CEO of his technology consultancy RootWorks, LLC.

Winners are selected by CPA Practice Advisor’s editorial advisory board and awards committee, which include thought leaders within the profession as well as accounting and tax professionals from across the country who are engaged in public practice in firms ranging from sole practitioners to major, multi-office regional practices. The publication, along with its digital content and interactive media, is the leading independent source of practice management resources and technology information for tax and accounting professionals in public practice.

“Modern tax and accounting practices must continue to drive their firms toward greater efficiency and productivity in order to succeed in an increasingly competitive environment,” Root said. “At the heart of this mission must be a focus on implementing not only the most effective resources and technologies, but also a redevelopment of best practices and workflow strategies that enable firms to achieve the greatest results. CPA Practice Advisor will continue to provide information, advice and other resources that help firm decision makers realize a greater level of success.”
